Barceloneta and the beaches

What it is

The old fishermen's quarter and the strip of beach beside it, extended and cleaned up for the 1992 Olympics.

Getting there

Metro Barceloneta, then ten minutes on foot.

When to go

May to October to swim. The beaches further up towards Bogatell are less crowded and just as good.

On a student budget

Free. Ignore the beach bars — they cost triple. Locals bring a bag from the supermarket and use the showers on the promenade.
