The free tapa
Not an attraction, and the thing that changes your budget most
- What it is
- In Granada a drink comes with a plate of food, unasked and unpriced. It is a genuine local custom rather than a tourist gimmick, and it holds in ordinary bars away from the centre.
- Getting there
- Calle Elvira, Calle Navas and the bars around Plaza de Toros. Anywhere that is full of people your own age.
- When to go
- From about eight in the evening. Earlier and you will be eating alone.
- On a student budget
- Two or three drinks is dinner, for around €8–10 all in. Budget accordingly: it is the single biggest reason Granada is cheaper to live in than Madrid or Barcelona.
