El Rastro

What it is

A street market that has run on Sundays since the fifteenth century, spreading downhill from La Latina through dozens of streets.

Metro La Latina or Tirso de Molina.

When to go

Sunday mornings only, from about nine until two.

On a student budget

Where you kit out a room cheaply in your first fortnight. Go early for anything worth having, and hold your bag in front of you in the crush.
