The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro

A Moorish fortress above the centre

What it is
An eleventh-century palace-fortress on the hill over the old town, connected by a walled walkway to the Gibralfaro castle above it. The view takes in the port, the bullring and the sea.
Getting there
Walk up from the Roman theatre in the centre, or bus 35 to the top and walk down.
When to go
Late afternoon. The climb in August at midday is a mistake people make once.
On a student budget
A combined ticket for both is a few euros, and entry is free on Sunday afternoons — which is when everyone goes, so decide which you would rather have.
