La Malagueta and the eastern beaches
Sand within walking distance of the centre
- What it is
- La Malagueta is the city beach; walking east along the front leads to Pedregalejo and El Palo, old fishing quarters where the espeto — sardines grilled on a cane over a boat full of sand — is the thing to eat.
- Getting there
- Walk from the centre in fifteen minutes, or bus 11 along the coast.
- When to go
- Swimmable roughly May to November, which is longer than anywhere else on this list.
- On a student budget
- Free. An espeto and a beer at a chiringuito in El Palo is around €6–8 and is the local lunch rather than a tourist experience.
