Mercado Central
Where your food shopping gets cheaper
- What it is
- One of the largest covered food markets in Europe, in a modernista building from 1928, still a working market rather than a food court.
- Getting there
- In the old town, beside the Llotja de la Seda.
- When to go
- Mornings, Monday to Saturday. It closes in the afternoon and does not open on Sundays.
- On a student budget
- This is a practical entry rather than a sightseeing one: fruit, vegetables and fish here cost a fraction of the supermarket, and going late in the morning gets you the end-of-day prices.
