The short version
We set one cookie to remember your answer to the question below, and — only if you say yes — two more so we can measure how the site is used. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers of any kind. You can change your answer at any time, at the bottom of this page.
Cookies we set only if you agree
geuropia_vid identifies your browser, not you. It is a random string with no meaning outside our own database, and it lets us tell a returning visitor from a new one. It lasts one year from your last visit.
geuropia_vsid marks a single sitting and expires after thirty minutes of inactivity.
With these we record which pages you saw, how far down them you scrolled, which links and buttons you used, and where clicking produced no result — that last one is how we find things that look like buttons and are not. We also record which step of the application form people stop at, and which field reported an error.
We never record what you type. The application form asks for a passport number; a record of which field reported an error is useful to us, and a record of its contents would be an identity document sitting in an analytics table. The distinction is deliberate and it is enforced in the code, not just in this policy.
The cookie we set either way
geuropia_consent stores your answer — yes or no — for six months, so we do not ask again on every page. If you say no, it is the only cookie of the three that exists, and the other two are deleted.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a no, never show the banner, and set nothing.
Email links
If you have agreed to measurement, the email links on this site open a message addressed to geuropia.edu+v… rather than plain geuropia.edu. Mail sent to either address reaches the same inbox; the tag tells us which visit led you to write, so that we know which pages actually help. The tag is the same random string as the cookie and contains nothing about you. You can delete it before sending, or type the plain address instead, and your message reaches us the same way.
How long we keep it
Individual events are deleted after twelve months. Visit and visitor records are deleted after twenty-four, unless they are attached to an application, in which case they follow the application's own retention rule in the privacy policy.
What is stored on your device without a cookie
A partly completed application is saved in your browser's local storage so that you can close the page and come back to it. It stays on your device until you submit the application or clear your browser data, and it is never sent to us before you submit. Documents you attach are never stored this way. This is not a cookie and is not covered by the choice above — it is how the form works.
Your language is part of the page address rather than a stored preference, so switching language changes the URL and nothing else.
Third parties
Fonts are served from our own domain, and everything described above is stored in our own database on our own server. Nothing is shared with an advertising network or an analytics provider.
There is one exception, on one page. The Talk to us page runs a Cloudflare Turnstile check before your first message, to tell a person from a script — the assistant costs us money for every question it answers, and without that check a bot can spend a day's budget in minutes. Using that page loads a script and a frame from Cloudflare and may leave a short-lived value in your browser so the check is not repeated. It is used only to confirm you are a person, it is not behind the choice above because the page cannot work without it, and it does not run anywhere else on the site.
If you would rather not use it, email geuropia.edu@gmail.com instead and a person will answer.
